Cause of Jock Itch - A Fungal Infection
body's defense system
is weak, the tinea fungi will 'invade' the skin causing an itchy skin rash to develop.
Some are at more risk than others. Those that have a higher risk factor are people who:- suffer from diabetes
- have weaken immune system
- are taking broad-spectrum antibiotics
It is considered a 'man's problem' but women can also suffer from jock itch. Usually though, the problem in women is caused by a yeast infection rather than a fugal infection.
Like all fungi, tinea crurtis thrives in warm moist areas, particularly where there is little or no air circulation. The groin area is a perfect breeding ground for jock itch to grow in. Another place for jock itch to develop is the warm moist areas of skin folds. - This is a very serious problem for obese people. The skin sweats and stays moist with little air getting into that area.
A friend of mine, who is in her eighties and a diabetic, had this happen. She ignored the situation for a while but eventually had to get medical treatment when the skin rash became extremely itchy and sore.
When To Get Medical Help- Go as soon as you see the
symptoms
of jock itch.
- Don't delay
Once we understand that the cause of jock itch is a fungal infection we can take steps to avoid getting. Although jock itch is not considered a serious skin infection, for those who suffer from this painful skin rash, it is very serious.
