Duct Tape Wart Removal

.

Duct tape wart removal or occlusion (blocking) therapy (DTOT) is an unconventional method for treating warts.

Researchers now say duct tape is a more effective, less painful alternative treatment than liquid nitrogen, which is used to freeze warts.

Who would have thought that the 'lowly' roll of duct tape would become an accepted part of a medical procedure?

That's what one study showed. An article in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine reported on the success of using duct tape when treating warts on children.

In the study, patients wore duct tape over their warts for six days. The treatment continued for a maximum of two months or until the wart went away.

Some think using duct tape to remove warts work because:

  • The blocking action of the duct tape irritates the wart causing the immune system to react.
  • When the duct tape is peeled off it pulls dead skin cells from the wart, gradually eliminating the virus that lives on the skin.
Here is one suggested procedure for using duct tape for getting rid of warts:
  1. Place a piece of duct tape on the wart.
  2. Leave the duct tape in place for six days, replacing any tape that falls off with a new piece as soon as possible.
  3. After six days, remove the tape and soak the wart in warm water.
  4. Gently pare the wart with a pumice stone or emery board.
  5. Next morning, apply a new piece of duct tape to begin another six-day cycle. Do this for up to two months or until the wart is gone.

An Alternate Method for Using Duct Tape:

  1. Using salicylic acid wart remover liquid to the wart before bedtime.
  2. After you let it dry in the air for a few minutes then completely cover the wart with duct tape.
  3. The next morning take the duct tape off.
  4. Do this every night and morning until the wart is gone. Every time the duct tape is peeled off some of the wart cells are removed.
The Negatives of Using Duct Tape for Getting Rid of Warts.
  • The tape tape dosn't allow the skin to breath and it may become red and soggy. If that happens, stop the the treatment for a few days. When the area drys out, start again.
  • This duct tape treatment is not a quick cure. It takes time and commitment.
One thing for sure, using the duct tape wart removal treatment for getting rid of warts is not expensive. After all, how much does a roll of duct tape cost.
