Jock Itch Symptoms

Jock itch symptoms can sometimes be confused with symptoms of other conditions that cause a skin rash or itchy skin. How do you know if you have this infection and not something else?

Symptoms of Jock Itch

Some of these symptoms are listed below to help you know whether or not you have this condition.

  • an itchy and irritable red skin rash of about a half inch across
  • flaking, peeling, or cracking skin
  • skin redness in the groin, thigh, or anal area
  • itching, chafing, or burning in the groin, thigh, or anal area
  • a circular, red, raivated edges sed rash with elevated edges
  • this skin rash appears between the legs and the genitals
  • the scrotum may become itchy
  • this skin rash has a definite border of tiny, raised pimples
  • both groins can become infected
  • the skin rash can spread a little way down the inside of both legs
  • In long-standing infections the skin rash becomes less itchy and less red and the plaques may fuse together.
  • The skin rash becomes more irritated with time and a further breakdown of the skin occurs that feels quite uncomfortable.
  • The rash may become dry, rough, and bumpy, develop pus bumps, or begin to ooze.
Other conditions cause itchy skin in the groin area here as well include:
  • Lichen simplex chronicus
  • Eczema
  • Pubic lice
  • Chemical irritation
A painful skin rash and uncomfortable itchy skin are also jock itch symptoms. Secondary complications such as breaks in the skin, open sores and ulcers can be caused by severe cases of this infection.
