Some Treatments for Removing Plantar Warts

We should view removing plantar warts as a priority. These warts are highly contagious. Not only can they spread to other parts of our body, they can spread to other people. Immediate steps should be taken to remove them.

It is extremely difficult to remove plantar warts because they are caused by the HPV virus.

Plantar Wart Treatments

Three types of treatments that help in the removal of plantar warts include:

1.First-line therapy include over the counter remedies such as

• salicylic acid.
• Wart Sticks
• Wart-Off Liquid, Wart remover
• Wartner Plantar Wart Removal Systems, 10 Applications

2.Second-line therapy include cryosurgery, intralesional immunotherapy or pulsed dye laster therapy.

3.Third-line therapy which includes bleomycin, surgical excision.

Some other types of treatment are:

• Freezing and cauterisation: both are painful and need several visits. These are often the most common treatments
• Salicylic acid applied to the wart needs to be applied daily and is slow – 3-6 months. However, some have found this to be the safest and most effective. Suggestion have it has a 73% success rate.
• pulsed laser dye treatment is painful and can result in scarring.
• Imiquimod is costly and can cause other problems.
• Bleomycin injections are costly and have side-effects.
• Retinoids can cause local irritation and are costly and have side-effects.
• Intralesional immunotherapy is expensive and may cause influenza-like symptoms.

Duct tape occlusion therapy (DTOT):
is a controversial method for treating warts by keeping them covered with duct tape for an a long time. It is not understood how it works and is likely a result of stimulating our immune system.

There are many ways for removing plantar warts, some scientific and some not so scientific. We shoulc choose the one that works the best for us. Plantar wart removal should be our top priority.
