What is Sunburn?

A sunburn is a burn that happens when our skin is overexposed to ultra violet (UV) radiation. This radiation is commonly caused by the sun's rays.

This burn results when the amount of exposure to the sun or other ultraviolet light source is greater than the body's protective pigment, melanin, is able to protect the skin.

A small amount of exposure will cause the skin to tan, which some rather like, but too much will result in a severe burn. Tanned skin was once thought to be a sign of beauty, but now we know better. Tanned skin is damaged skin.

A burn caused by ultraviolet rays are as serious as a thermal burn, and may have the same effects on our body such as blistering, edema and fever.

Sun protection should be the number one item on our list when we go outside. A part of every skin care regimen is to protect our skin from the damaging and premature aging of the sun. It is necessary for us to find a product that can give powerful sun protection, is water-resistant, nongreasy, and safety-allergy-dermatologist tested.

There are things that will make us more sensitive to sun damage. We are warned to watch out for sunburn boosters. Often we use protects totally unaware of the dangers they pose to our skin. These products make us more sensitive to the sun's rays so not only are we in danger of getting a more severe burn, we are more susceptible to skin cancer

A sunburn is not something to be taken lightly. Whether we experience a mild burn or a more severe burn our skin has become damaged and we are risk for skin cancer.
