What Is Cellulite?

Picture showing What Is Cellulite What is cellulite? Cellulite is non-life threatening. Yet it can have a profound effect on our lives.

How we look and how we feel about ourselves dictates important aspects of our life. Many major decisions regarding our employment, personal relationships and even our love life are based on how we view ourselves.

Cellulite happens more often in women and is seldom seen in men. A popular myth is that cellulite is caused by obesity. Not true. It occurs in overweight, normal, and thin people.

The picture on the right shows what cellulite looks like.

Cellulite is a term that describes the appearance of bumpy looking fat on the body. It is often referred to as 'orange peel' skin becomes it resembles the bumps on an orange peel.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a description rather than a physical object. The term 'cellulite' is used to describe dimpling or 'orange peel' skin. Some think it looks like cottage cheese.

This dimpling is caused by superficial pockets of trapped fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissues beneath the skin. This trapped fat does not allow the lymph system to work properly, thus a large part of cellulite is made up of toxins and fat that have not drained away.

Note: This condition is not related to cellulitis, which is a bacterial infection of the skin and tissues beneath the skin.
